In her interview with NBC’s Brian Williams, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said that Bill Ayers is “no question” a terrorist because he sought to destroy the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon. Palin, however, refused to apply the same label to abortion clinic bombers:
Q: Is an abortion clinic bomber a terrorist, under this definition, governor?
PALIN: (Sigh). There’s no question that Bill Ayers via his own admittance was one who sought to destroy our U.S. Capitol and our Pentagon. That is a domestic terrorist. There’s no question there. Now, others who would want to engage in harming innocent Americans or facilities that uh, it would be unacceptable. I don’t know if you’re going to use the word terrorist there.
(H/T Think Progress)
I suppose the distinction is that the Weathermen went after Government buildings (statues, actually.) If so, that lets the 9/11 guys off the hook.
So to summarize, a guy who didn't actually bomb the Capitol is a terrorist, a guy who DOES bomb a medical facility is maybe not. Or in other words, she's willing to turn a blind eye if she AGREES with the terrorism. She'll probably decide on a case-by-case basis once she's president of the Senate. "Well, you are a rapist but you only raped a couple of Democrats. You're cool. Get outta here, you nut. (wink)"
I had such high hopes after that CNN segment that she'd get to finish out the race with a little dignity. Honest, I take less pleasure in bashing McCain and Palin than it seems. You may recall the 1996 race between Clinton and Dole - that was an honorable race with the least mud-slinging from either candidate in recorded history. I'm getting all weepy thinking about it. Well, I still hope Palin can go on to a successful career after this race, but it probably won't be national because she's just too far to the right for most of the country.
