Joe The Remainder

Joe the Plumber Lands Book Deal

Compiled by DAVE ITZKOFF

Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, the presidential campaign fixture and John McCain advocate better known as Joe the Plumber, won’t have to open his own plumbing business just yet: he has signed a deal to write “Joe the Plumber: Fighting for the American Dream.” PearlGate Publishing, a small publisher in Austin, Tex., announced the book on its Web site, pearlgatepublishing.com. The book, which will be written with Thomas N. Tabback (whose novel, “Things Forgotten,” was also published by PearlGate), will address Mr. Wurzelbacher’s ideas about American values, and is scheduled for release on Dec. 1. In an interview with Fox News Mr. Wurzelbacher said he could have signed a deal with a larger publisher. “But they don’t need the help,” Mr. Wurzelbacher said. “They are already rich. So that’s spreading the wealth to me.”

  1. I'm sure his payoff from his impending lawsuits against various Ohio state officials will be much larger than his book deal.

Where is the ACLU on that, by the way?

  2. Chirp, chirp goes the ACLU.

  3. Maybe they couldn't find him, because he probably didn't file under "joe the plumber." Or perhaps Samuel Wurzelbacher hasn't requested their help. Not that he needs it - he just signed a big book deal.

If I were the ACLU, considering the kudos they got from you guys for helping Rush Limbaugh, I'd just be resting on my laurels. Why court even MORE adulation?

  4. I'm not talking about the ACLU representing Joe, but merely speaking up that how those people that illegally snooped into his private information, and then made it public were wrong in what they did.

I wonder if the ACLU will suddenly appear if the lady who leaked the info gets canned from her job..

  5. You know, I think after having checked out the aclu.org site that their failure to not grandstand about Joe The Plumber has to do with putting their resources into grandstanding about Guantanamo and the Real ID act. Those guys have been doing precious little, let's call 'em celebrity endorsements, lately, because the Bush Administration has given them much, much bigger fish to fry.

  6. So Government employees illegally revealing private information about US citizens is no big deal?

  7. I haven't seen YOU contributing to hire lawyers for Joe. How big a deal can it be?

  8. Daniel, nice flippant answer. But, as usual, you evade the REAL question.

But, let's take your answer to its logical conclusion...

Using Pikerlogic (tm), since wamk didn't give money to Joe for a legal defense fund, government intrusion into anyone's privacy is OK?

Gotcha. Excellent. Now, I want some government official to give me everything they have and can find on Piker. After all... HE didn't give anything to Joe's defense fund either!

  9. "Pikerlogic"... the title of my next blog! Woo hoo!

That's quite a leap there Publius, to say that any individual wrongdoing the ACLU doesn't publicly condemn must be something they approve of. For example the ACLU didn't aid Jennifer Garner in her recent quest to get a restraining order against a stalker; therefore you would conclude the ACLU is pro-stalker.

Since the breach is already under investigation by government officials, there is nothing of practical use for the ACLU to do. If it's determined that Sam's rights weren't violated, THEN they should consider stepping in.

  10. "That's quite a leap there Publius, to say that any individual wrongdoing the ACLU ..."

Actually, I was talking about you. I have no expectations from the American Communist Liars Union.
