I think the mainstream media is quite broken and I think there needs to be the fairness, the balance in there — that’s why I joined Fox. Fair and balanced, yes. You know because, Jay, those years a go that I studied journalism it was all about the who, what, when, where, and why, it was not so much the opinion interjected in hard news stories. … As long as there is not the opinion under the guise of hard news stories — I think there needs to be clear differentiation.Clearly we were all wrong about the nature of Palin's gig... she's not going to be a pundit or commentator, but an old-fashioned shoe-leather journalist! Just the facts! Like Fox News' intrepid Griff Jenkins! I look forward to seeing her out there, keeping her opinions to herself, just delivering the hard facts, dressed in a trenchcoat and shouting above the gale-force winds.
Unless she's just lyin' again about everything.
Oooor, as is more likely the correct reading of the drop quote you supplied... Palin joined Fox News because she believes Fox is for actual journalism and has the sense to tell listeners when its hosts are opinionists separating that from the news. And that she never said SHE was going to be "just a journalist" and not an opinion editorialist!
ReplyDeleteFox frequently presents "hard news stories" that are thinly-veiled opinion pieces, in addition to ginning up the opinions with biased news crawls at the bottom of the screen, plus relying on guests with conservative viewpoints most of the time when they have guests at all. Again, during the hard news shows.
ReplyDeleteSo you claim. Taken a look at MSNBC lately? CNN? ABC, CBS, NBC... New York Times??? What's the difference, then?
ReplyDeleteWith the New York Times, there's little difference - they both feature William Kristol as a frequent pundit.
