Ferguson

I don't want to weigh in on Ferguson. Ferguson being my shorthand name for the recent pheonmenon of possibly excessive police violence.

Listen, I got good reasons. I'll put it this way. Rioting to the point of property damage is wrong, and I can't condone it. But I understand where it's coming from. There are an awful lot of police killing an awful lot of unarmed men and boys, for dubious reasons. And it doesn't look good that so many of the victims are black, and they're not firing people over it.

On the other hand, I respect cops. They have an impossible job and it's likely that if they did it strictly by the book, we'd be at the mercy of crime lords and thugs every day of our lives. So I get that in individual cases, it makes sense to shoot before they can pull a weapon on you.

The problem, though, is that I can't give a blanket approval to everybody in any one group. I can't say all the cops aren't hair-trigger racists -- most are not, but some of them clearly must be. And I don't think the rioters are nobly expressing themselves. Most are, but a handful of them nationally are taking advantage of the unrest to wreck stuff and steal things.

So there you have it. How do we solve this? I don't know. I'm a goddam blogger, not Ghandi.

A Reminder To People Who Insist They're Not Being Racist

This guy insists he's not being racist.

David Marsters, a conservative candidate for a town position in Sabattus, Maine, was surprised by a visit from the Secret Service after he posted an article on his Facebook about President Obama along with the words “Shoot the ni**er.” But even after the Secret Service visit, Marsters continues to defend his comment as freedom of speech — although he deleted the original posting.

“[They] didn’t see no pictures of Obama with bullet holes in his head,” Marsters said. “It’s not a threatening statement, in my opinion. People take it out of context as a threat.” Marsters maintains his comment isn’t racist, because “white people are ni**ers, too.” In addition to subscribing to the conspiracy that Obama faked his birth certificate, Marsters has pushed for a town law to require a gun in every house.

So you're in that company. Just sayin'.

Low-Hanging Fruit Friday: A Comment Section At NRO

This week I have spent a little time at The National Review Online, a conservative-leaning website that springs from a venerable magazine founded by William F. Buckley Jr. and to tell the truth, it kind of needs him nowadays. Which is sad because he ain't coming back even more than Reagan isn't.

Anyway, a Mr. Lamar Smith published a helpful analysis today called "GOP Should Face Facts on Immigration Reform (subtitled, Republicans will benefit by working to make more Hispanics middle class) and I think his point is rather than concentrate on legalizing those who aren't citizens, the GOP should be treating the legal Hispanics better. A sensible counter-strategy, especially if you're opposed to illegal immigration on the grounds that it's simply illegal.

The impression I'm getting from the comments section is that is not the grounds that his readers are using. *

99 Percent of Immigrants Are Drug Mules!

Who knew? Rep. Steve King of Iowa knew!



Rep. King is gracious enough to admit that some Mexicans are valedictorians and not drug mules.

I'm wondering how that works economically - the cartels hire these guys and say, here's some money to haul this backpack full of drugs over the border. Once you get there, you can stay and apply for citizenship; I'll hire another guy and send him over after you. Seems a little counter-productive, this operation. Why not use the same mules again? And why would a guy who's struggling to get to the US take the risk of carrying all those drugs as well, when it would attract drug-sniffing dogs?

And of course, considering how fat and lazy those guys are it seems incredible that so many of them have calves the size of cantaloupes. Another research project for another time.

A Rebuttal, From Someone Who KNOWS THE FACTS **Update**

I'm going to admit here that it is seriously gratifying to learn that WAMK reads this blog, at least once in a while. He cranked out a rebuttal to the piece I wrote Monday about the George Zimmerman  verdict. I won't go over there to respond to it because it would be a discourtesy to disagree with him on his own blog (and twitter feed) so instead I'll just admit here that he's right on many counts.

My source now is this Yahoo explainer,  which includes the transcript of Zimmerman's 911 call. It's true the police did not insist that Zimmerman stop following the kid; they merely said "you don't have to do that". Obviously Zimmerman could have avoided his alleged beating had he listened, and therefore the subsequent incarceration and trial.

It's the attitude expressed below by WAMK, though I've heard it from many others as well, that still troubles me:

Martin had several choices that night. Martin could have continued on his way home. Martin could have called police, and reported a "creepy ass cracker" following him. He could have hid in the shadows until Zimmerman went away. He could have yelled from the shadows "Stop following me, I've called the police". He could have banged on a door or two, yelling for help that he was scared. He could have told the girl he was on the phone with to call the cops for him while he hid. But he didn't. He made a choice to confront Zimmerman, a choice that ultimately cost him his life.

In other words Martin would be alive today if he had simply NOT CHOSEN TO STAND HIS GROUND. There's a double standard at work here. It's true that Trayvon Martin had a violent incident in his past - but so did Zimmerman. Martin had some racially charged statements in his internet history - so did Zimmerman. So why is Zimmerman a hero and Martin a troublemaker? Remember, there was no evidence that Martin was in the neighborhood to commit a crime. He didn't have tools. He wasn't even armed.

Since we only have Zimmerman's side of the story now, the testimony of a man who had a murder rap to beat, the trial really doesn't prove anything. And until someone can explain why people who were convinced of Zimmerman's innocence from day one got that idea, people like me will suspect that race is the motivating factor.

In WAMK's favor, I recollect that he was not convinced from day one. You know who was though? The Florida justice system, who didn't even consider the case worthy of a hearing until the bad publicity forced their hand.

The Hidden Flaw of Stand Your Ground Laws

Even though it wasn't argued in the George Zimmerman case, apparently Florida's Stand Your Ground law influenced the jury's verdict.The idea that you can shoot first and have questions asked later, in a trial, is as American as an episode of Gunsmoke. But the problem is this: Trayvon Martin, if he had had a gun, would have been justified as well. After all, an armed private citizen was following him in a vehicle at night in the rain. Would Martin have gotten the same treatment in trial? Probably not, but that wouldn't be any comfort to the Zimmerman family.

And African-Americans now feel that they are in danger from armed white men. They could cite the very Stand Your Ground laws that protect innocent citizens from harm as they fire their stolen guns into the viscera of "threatening" white folk.

It's up to Richard Cohen to raise the obvious reason why Stand Your Ground cannot stand:

Where is the politician who will own up to the painful complexity of the problem and acknowledge the widespread fear of crime committed by young black males? This does not mean that raw racism has disappeared, and some judgments are not the product of invidious stereotyping. It does mean, though, that the public knows young black males commit a disproportionate amount of crime. In New York City, blacks make up a quarter of the population, yet they represent 78 percent of all shooting suspects — almost all of them young men. We know them from the nightly news.
Those statistics represent the justification for New York City’s controversial stop-and-frisk program, which amounts to racial profiling writ large. After all, if young black males are your shooters, then it ought to be young black males whom the police stop and frisk. Still, common sense and common decency, not to mention the law, insist on other variables such as suspicious behavior. Even still, race is a factor, without a doubt. It would be senseless for the police to be stopping Danish tourists in Times Square just to make the statistics look good.

Blacks are just criminals, people! You can scoff and say that they're arrested more often because of racial prejudice but the truth is that race is just predisposed to crime. IT'S ON THE NEWS.

In the coming election, it's vitally important that anyone who supports the Stand Your Ground laws also calls for, DEMANDS, that there be an exemption to keep black folk from citing it. Otherwise, they'll rise up and kill us all in our sleep. Insist that your Senatorial and Congressional candidates make this a big issue in 2014!

Also, maybe it's finally time to get those Jews out of financial services. We are a Christian Nation after all!

Finally, A Way To Make The Empty Chair Racist

MORGAN HILL, Calif. — Some residents are calling a symbolic political display erected by a Morgan Hill homeowner that features two watermelons and a noose racist and even vaguely threatening towards President Obama.
The apparent reference to President Obama made some people passing by, including Republicans, uneasy.
"We shouldn't be threatening with a noose and a watermelon," said San Martin resident Ben Gomez. "I believe that's a little over the top. I like the chair and the teleprompter. I mean, they're just copying Clint Eastwood, so I can't blame them on that one. But the noose goes a little over the edge."

Listen Señor Gomez, you're either with us or against us. Why don't you drop the chalupa and go back to Spainland with your 30 relatives?

Look, it's not like people aren't joking about lynching Mitt Romney. I mean, somewhere they must be.

On the Rodeo, Whoa-oh-oh-oh

I want to disabuse my liberal friends of the wrong conclusions they might reach following this incident.

An announcer at the Creston Classic Rodeo offended some in the audience Saturday when he made a racist joke about first lady Michelle Obama over the PA system. Now, at least one rodeo board member is demanding an apology.

“I was really appalled and the people around me were really appalled,” said spectator Dona Wilson of Santa Margarita. “He was acting like we were buying into his bigotry and we weren’t.”

Wilson said she heard a lady beside her say: “ ‘Whoa! Racist or what?’ ”

According to Wilson, the joke as told by the announcer, went something like this: Playboy is offering Ann Romney $250,000 to pose in the magazine and the White House is upset about it because National Geographic only offered Michelle Obama $50 to pose for them.

It turns out the joke wasn't told by the announcer but by a rodeo clown, who was on a mic at the same time.

So look, it is a mistake to assume that all Republicans are as racist as Mike Hayhurst, the aforementioned rodeo clown. If we can assume that many of the audience was Republican, the fact that Heyhurst bombed with the joke indicates most people aren't in on it, and that would include the Republicans.

The other thing you don't want to assume from this article is that most Republicans are rodeo clowns. It's an easier mistake to make because their last President was one.

I'm Pretty Sure This Is Illegal In Florida

Walton Henry Butler, 59, was arrested by Gulf County Sheriff’s deputies on Monday night for shooting 32-year-old Everett Gant, who is black, in the head with a .22 caliber rifle.

According to a charging affidavit obtained by The Star, Butler had referred to Pamela Rogers’ child and other children at his apartment complex with racial slurs.

Gant was shot between the eyes when he went to Butler’s apartment to confront him over the remarks, the documents said. Butler allegedly closed his sliding glass door and left Gant bleeding on ground outside.

The suspect contacted 911 and had finished his dinner before Gulf County Sheriff Joe Nugent arrived. 

Nugent recalled that Butler appeared “inconvenienced” by the arrest, saying that “he had only shot a n*gger.”

Gant is expected to survive, so he can look forward to seeing the following opinions expressed by crazies in certain comment sections, and a handful of elected officials.

1. Why is this a "hate crime?" It's enough of a crime to shoot someone in the face, right? We need to stop demonizing hate.

2. Now isn't the time to discuss gun control.

3. The press is playing the race card by reporting the story this way.

4. Butler voted for Obama, and is a liberal. Because THAT'S WHAT LIBERALS ARE LIKE.

The talking point I don't expect to see (curiously) is the one where this whole incident could have been avoided if African Americans in Florida were all armed. Trevon Martin would be alive! Gant would have been safe!

WND Thinks Blacks Should Be More Like Jews

Virginia is For Haterz

Uh Oh! It turns out the next President of the United States will be neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney! It's Keith Judd! At least, in West Virginia.

Barack Obama was not the only Democrat on the ballot on Tuesday in West Virginia's Democratic Presidential Primary. Keith Judd - also known as Inmate No. 11593-051 at the Federal Correctional Institution in Texarkana, Texas - was running against him.

Judd, who is serving out a 17.5 year sentence for extortion, currently has received 40 percent of the vote, with 83 percent of precincts reporting, according to The Associated Press. Obama currently has received 60 percent of the vote.

Obama's lack of popularity in West Virginia has been well-documented. The state's governor Earl Ray Tomblin and it's junior senator Joe Manchin, both Democrats, have kept their distance from the president.

Okay sure, Barack still won the primary by 20 points but once people realize that there is a choice - between a Harvard Law School graduate and a white felon, well game over. What about the other white guy? A potential VP pick from Virginia says Obama has the edge over him. And let's face it, who is the guy you can imagine having a beer with? Judd.

Robert De Niro Issues An Apology

So this happened - Newt (who?) Gingrich got mad at Robert DeNiro.

Newt Gingrich is incensed about a joke by actor Robert DeNiro at a fundraiser attended by Michelle Obama for the president’s re-election, in which the Academy Award-winning star used the word “white” to describe the Republican field’s spouses. “Callista Gingrich. Karen Santorum. Ann Romney. Now do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady?” DeNiro said. “Too soon, right?”

De Niro, whose advertisers have since all pulled out after he repeated the joke for three days in a row, said this:

"I regret using the word 'white' in my joke. It was a poor choice for the word, and I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make Mr. Gringrich all honkey about it, and I hope that together we can crack this problem, because Newt is a good cracker."


Mr. Gingrich, who is apparently running for president of the moon or something, is demanding an apology from the President for some reason as well. Though it has actually happened, I expect he'll keep on asking anyway.

PROOF That Obama Controls Oil Prices!

As you can see, the nation is producing more oil and using less foreign oil than during the B*** years, and yet the prices are still rising! The only possible explanation is that Obama is driving the price of oil up so people will buy less, be forced into using socialist renewable energy. He probably wants us all to take bicycles to work too, which will bankrupt the heroic American auto industry!

You might say, why is Obama doing this in an election year, when he could easily price oil out of the market once he starts his second term? Because he knows he's going to lose against Sarah Palin, that's why! America will demand that Sarah Palin enter the race, then she'll win the debates with Obama (because she's very smart and Obama can't even talk without a teleprompter) and then Obama won't get to make gas more expensive. It's all so obvious!

Oh, and stop getting upset about those "Don't Re-Nig" bumper stickers. They're not racist according to "the dictionary."

Oh, THAT'S The Tea Party Agenda!

Michelle Bachmann, the Tea Party's most articulate spokesperson now that Sarah Palin has dropped out of the race (Yes she has. Don't argue with me.) has finally put it out there, the crazy underlying code that explains their weirdo behavior.

"So we don’t have to go to the side, we don’t have to sit on the back of the bus in this election."  (italics mine)


The Tea Party sees itself either as the negroes of 2011, marginalized, brutalized, ignored by society; OR more likely they resent the fact that the Negroes were given special laws and quotas and this is their way to call attention to the horrible injustice of it. This is why they coined the term "teabagger" and then shrieked at you if YOU used it. Sounds like that other word with the double G in the middle, right? Get it?

If so when will they stop? Probably when the Negroes are put back in their place, and things go back to the way they were in the fifties. Life was great in the fifties! Then, a negro rose on the basis of his merit! If very few of them rose, well, there's obviously a reason for that, right?

They wouldn't even have brought it up if a common street negro hadn't been elected President.

As usual in posts of this kind, I'm looking forward to the commenters proving me wrong. Because honestly, I hope I am.
